TIPS & TRICKS

for Toxins and Fillers

To Avoid Bruising
  • Avoid any blood thinners like: aspirin, Motrin, Advil, Ibuprofen, Excedrin, Alleve, and Naproxen for a week before treatment.
  • Be sure to let your injector know if you are on any prescription blood thinners.
  • Don’t take any fish oil, vitamin E, ginseng or ginko bilboa. Try to stop those about 1 week prior to the treatment.
  • Avoid drinking any alcohol for 1-2 days prior to injections.
  • Cut garlic out of your diet 1-2 days before injections.
  • Drink plenty of water the day before your treatment.

To avoid pain/swelling
  • Bromelain and Aloe Vera can be used to reduce pain and swelling.
  • Tylenol can be taken for pain before treatment, since it does not thin the blood.
  • Arnica Montana, a homeopathic remedy found at drug stores and health-food stores, can be taken the morning before treatment to help reduce pain and inflammation.
Other
  • If you are getting fillers in your lips and have a history of cold sores, be sure to let your doctor know, they may advise you to take Valtrex before or after your treatment.
  • A cold compress should be applied for 10 minutes prior to injections to constrict blood vessels and to numb the area.

Post Treatment

Immediately post treatment
  • Do not apply make-up for at least 4 hours after treatment. Tiny injection site holes in the skin are still open and at risk for infection immediately after treatment.
  • Tylenol can be taken to relieve pain.

24 hours post treatment
  • Alcohol should be avoided for 24 hours after treatment to reduce bruising.
  • Stay cool and avoid heat such as hot showers, saunas, washing the face with hot water, and cooking over a hot stove for 24 hours after treatment.
  • No exercise or strenuous activity for 24 hours after treatment.
In general
  • Avoid extended sunlight or UV exposure until swelling has diminished, always apply at least an SPF 30 sunscreen.
  • Apply a cold compress gently on and off the treated area for 5-10 minutes each hour the first few days. Never apply direct ice cubes to the skin.
  • No Clarasonic or Nuface use and don’t rub or massage rigorously.
  • Elevate your head! Sleep on your back with your head elevated on a few extra pillows to reduce swelling and the risk of rolling over on your face.
  • Fillers are still moldable for about a week or two after injections. After lip fillers avoid drinking from straws or smoking cigarettes for at least 24 hours. Be very gentle with any contact to the treated area.
  • Wait at least a week before getting additional cosmetic injectables, IPL, microdermabrasion, laser hair removal, laser resurfacing etc., on the treated area.
